Going Places Network
As part of a national grant from the Walmart Foundation, Dress for Success Hudson County launched the Going Places Network by Walmart in April 2011. The Going Places Network by Walmart will help unemployed and under-employed Dress for Success clients gain professional skills, accelerate their job search and build confidence through weekly training sessions, one-on-one career coaching and networking in a supportive environment. With the addition of the Going Places Network by Walmart to the Dress for Success Hudson County portfolio of programs, disadvantaged women will have access to support and services for every phase of their professional lives, starting with the job search and leading to sustained employment and self-sufficiency.
Under the direction of Program Coordinator Linda Street, we kicked-off our first program group (or cohort) on April 13. The group will meet weekly for 12 weeks with guest speakers and facilitators on a wide range of topics. This is a great opportunity for the ladies to share information with one another, but also to broaden their professional network by engaging with the speakers, volunteers and other guests. Two additional cohorts will be conducted through the end of the year.
Thanks to the continued support and generosity of Wentworth Management, we are fortunate to have our weekly sessions hosted at the Canco Lofts www.cancolofts.com
Michelle Weston is filming a number of the sessions to develop a documentary piece about the program. Michelle is an engineer and producer with The Spectrum Group, an integrated media production and content development company founded in 1999.

Another form of documenting this series is coming courtesy of well-known blogger Kateria Niambi aka The Katalist. She was so intrigued by our program that she offered to create our blog and attends weekly to generate timely content that not only highlights and recaps the session topic, but shares the perspective of an ‘outside’ observer. We are seeking the support of Hudson County businesses to meet our program development and employment goals through discovery interviews, internships, job shadowing and more importantly, hiring. To explore collaborative opportunities, please email hudsoncounty@dressforsuccess.org with the subject:Going Places Network.
